Why read the Quran even though we can't understand it?
An old American Muslim lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Quraan. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could. One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa, I try to read the Quraan just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Quraan do?"The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water." The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boy try again. At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless!""So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket." The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out."Son, that's what happens when you read the Quraan. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of ﷲﺃ in our lives."

Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured [Reuters]
Violence has resumed in the Gaza Strip after a three-hour lull that allowed beleaguered residents to look for food and fuel.
Al Jazeera's Zeina Awad, reporting from the Israel-Gaza border in the early hours of Thursday, said it was clear that Israeli air attacks had intensified and explosions could be heard over Gaza as the Israeli assault entered its 13th day.
There were reports that the presidential palace in Gaza had been hit as well as police stations. Al Jazeera confirmed that a mosque had been hit, injuring 15 people.
Wednesday's lull was followed by news that Israel's security cabinet had approved an expansion to the offensive in Gaza as part of its stated aim to halt Hamas cross-border rocket attacks.
Offensive to broaden
Despite the onslaught in Gaza, eight rockets were fired from the territory into southern Israel on Wednesday.
Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, chaired the security cabinet meeting in Jerusalem which "approved continuing the ground offensive, including a third stage that would broaden it by pushing deeper into populated areas," a senior defence official said.
The final decision would be left to Ehud Barak, the Israeli defence minister, the official added.
Israel warned thousands of people in the Rafah zone on the Egyptian border to leave their houses ahead of planned air raids on Thursday.
"You have until 8am [06:00 GMT]," said leaflets which were dropped by the Israeli military.
Witnesses said that a house and a suspected smuggling tunnel were hit in two raids early on Thursday.
At least 700 Palestinians, including 219 children, have died in Gaza since Israel began its assault on December 27. More than 3,080 people have also been wounded.
Seven Israeli soldiers and three civilians have died in the same period.
Onslaught continues
Soon after the three-hour lull on Wednesday, an Israeli air raid on a car in Beit Lahia, near Gaza's northern border with Israel, killed three children and their father, who was described as a civilian by medical workers in the besieged strip.
Palestinians and aid workers in and around Gaza City had used Wednesday's brief respite to recover dead bodies, treat the wounded, and gather much-needed supplies in and around Gaza City.

Peter Lerner, an Israeli military spokesman, announced "offensive" military action across the strip would be suspended for three hours every alternating day, although the timings may vary.
Despite this, Israeli air raids were reported in other parts of the Palestinian territory during Wednesday's announced timeframe of 1pm-4pm.
Most of Wednesday's clashes occurred in northern Gaza, with explosions reported in Jabalya and Beit Lahia.
In Gaza City, four people were killed and seven injured outside a mosque in the Sheik Radwan neighbourhood.
Two people were also killed earlier when the Zeitoun district was targeted from the air.
Further south, air raids hit the towns of Khan Yunis and Rafah, where over 20 houses were destroyed.
Around 15,000 Palestinians have had to flee the fighting so far, but have found few places safe, with even schools converted into UN shelters being hit.
An Israeli attack on a school run by the UN Relief and Works Agency in the northern town of Jabaliya on Tuesday left 43 Palestinians dead and around 100 wounded.
Israeli officials said missiles were fired from the UN building and that their troops were simply returning fire.
Heba, a Gaza resident and mother of two, told Al Jazeera there was no place left in Gaza that could be considered safe.
"What happened in the school was a hugely offensive and inhumane thing. We never expected that people who sought refuge in a UN building would be attacked and killed," she said.

and in these such times, we as the brothers and sisters of the palestinians should play a role or contribute a part(big or small) in helping them either at the utmost (helping them directly) or simply by indirect ways..one way is to apply the recitation of qunut nazilah* in our daily prayers..in the time of the propet, there was mass killing of the qurra's (sahabah of the prophet s.a.w who memerized the quran) in sumur Ma'unah..because of that, he (s.a.w) recitated qunut nazilah for one whole month..

for us muslims, its our new year...
and as any new year, we have n should have a new year resolution...
we should turn over a new leaf they say...
in the time of the prophet (s.a.w), they made a 'hijrah', or 'moving' from Mekah to Madinah al-munawwarah..
n for other muslims, 'hijrah' is commonly n usually symbolized by the 'changing' of oneself from something bad, to something good..or better still, from something good, to something much better (or even to achievce greater excellence?)..
if possible, it should be in all context of our lives, better it be from matters regarding solah(prayer), muamalah(rules n regulatons during daily conducts), to akhlaq(behaviour/character) n many more..beside, Islam issyumul, right?..thus, if we want to change (to something good that is), it should be done as a whole..not just to take bits n pieces of Islam (the parts that we like only), to put it together, n the worst part is to 'renovate' it to suit our likings...no...............that is absolutely not permissible... Islam is already perfect n complete, there's no need to change it..however, the only thing that (really)needs to be changed is its people, us, the muslims... hence, in conjunction with maal hijrah, let us(u, me, everyone) make a vow to ourselves, a promise, a promise to (insyaAllah) hijrah to something better..

[as quoted from Wikipedia (=P)].. all imply the same thing..the value of "saying the truth"..its a simple, small, n sometimes a minute aspect in our lives which we sometimes forget to apply..but the consequences are/is (most of the time, if not all the time) very big..(need i give any examples?..hrmm..i think u all would know better, right?..) so, what are we all waiting for (we means it also includes me?.. how about, starting from now, (from this very second), we try to always speak the truth, no matter what... hows about it?..~
[p/s: this especially applies for us muslims...we say that our beloved prophet Muhammad s.a.w is our most ideal role model right?..and he was called 'al-Amin' (trustworthy) right?...so why are we (some of us) not following him?.....hrmm...this is something to ponder on....]
